Yeah we are gonna second Wirsindkrieg here- it might have been INTENDED as an opt-in label, but its really not used that way at all in our experience.
Its used beyond its original intentions now and there is no getting around that.
Its colloquial use is by default inclusion. You cannot go five feet without someone saying alterhuman on a post/poll/etc and meaning 'all those with nonhuman or fictional related identities' and not JUST people who identify as Specifically alterhuman.
You either have to accept being called that or you are barred from huge amounts of the community.
It may have been intended as opt-in, but its USED as opt-out now, and unfortunately thats unlikely to change because we dont HAVE another easy way to refer to all those with nonhuman or fictional related identities, so its become the default.
The way its used now and the way it was intended to be used are just not the same anymore.
What we really need to be talking about is what to do now about that. Original intentions are all well and good, but the functional use is different, so the conversation should take that into account.
Masterpost about the meaning and origin of the word alterhuman
Folks have been getting confused about the meaning and purpose of the umbrella term and identity label "alterhuman." Often, people wrongly claim it doesn't include groups that it was originally created to let in. Another common wrong idea is that folks think they're personally being opted into it against their will (which is contrary to the word's design). I've even seen the word's coinage attributed to several surprised people who say they didn't invent it! This masterpost will stop this misinformation by linking to primary sources with dates and attribution. These links explain a lot about its meaning, so I recommend that you open and read each of them.
The word "alterhuman" was coined by Lio (it/its). At the time, it was writing under the name Malchior (username Phasmovore), which you'll still see on the original post. Lio is a member of the Crossroads System (XRDS or X-RDS). This is a link to the post where Lio originally coined the word on September 26, 2014, explaining about how the word does and doesn't relate to furries and plural systems. If you read no other link in this post, read that one!
Here are a couple more posts where the coiner of "alterhuman" explains the meaning of the word.
In this post from February 19, 2023, Lio explains about the intracommunity tensions that brought about the need to unite under this umbrella term.
In this post from May 27, 2023, Lio explains that the word does not equal nonhuman.
The group that popularized the word the most was Alt+H, an organization for alterhuman advocacy that was active from 2016 to 2023. Alt+H wrote this post on September 21, 2017, in which they explain about how "alterhuman" does not equal "nonhuman," and that it includes voluntary identities.
One of the former writers for Alt+H was Aster, the Flock of Changes. In this post from October 21, 2020, Aster explains that alterhuman is not simply another word for "otherkin," but instead is an umbrella term that includes many more sorts of identities and experiences than otherkin.
To make sure that we don't forget our history, so we quit getting confused about where the word came from, and so we have an occasion to celebrate being our authentic alterhuman selves in whatever creative ways we can, and solidarity with others who do too, I suggest that we start celebrating the date it was coined-- September 26, 2014-- as Alterhuman Day. This one coming up in 2023 will mark the ninth anniversary since Lio coined it. In 2024, the word will be a decade old!
- This masterpost is by Orion Scribner on September 3, 2023.
#if you arent in nonhuman/fictional/alth communities pay this post no mind#long post#nonhuman stuff#respect you a ton Orion and love the citations all in one place but this post is missing that that its NOT used with its original intention#we have to go out of our way to not be labeled alterhuman kind of a lot and it sucks. would LOVE if it was still used as opt in lol#when huge amounts of polls & servers & resources keep assuming all otherkin are alterhuman by default its functionally... Not opt-in

I do think it’s important to clarify in your OP about the house bill that this is anti-trans legislation first and foremost. while it’s of concern for alterhumans, it is very deliberately being proposed as a way to frame trans people as animals & target trans kids—the author of the bill doesn’t actually care (and probably doesn’t know) about alterhumanity.
This bill will be used to prop up transphobic laws, and probably isn’t intended to be passed at all. I don’t think removing or ignoring that context is appropriate.
- a trans therian
I was going to make a reblog about this exact thing, but I'll say what I was going to say there here instead because I think it's important to make sure everyone gets the chance to see this. This is going to be long because I tend to ramble. TL;DR: Conservatives are not framing transgender people themselves as animals, but their arguments about/beliefs regarding people who identify as animals are absolutely deeply rooted in transphobia, which itself is deeply rooted in a fear/hatred of any "divergent identity." These two concerns are very closely entwined and are part of the same fight (the fight of "just let people be whoever they are"), but are not in and of themselves the same in the sense that this lawmaker is trying to target transgender folks with this specific bill. What makes this bill particularly concerning is the fact that it treats nonhuman-identities as their own separate issue, along with the media coverage it has been getting, which could easily spark other more "viable" anti-"furry" bills to be written and potentially passed in more conservative states across the country. However, this is not a time to panic, but rather a time to be vigilant and start thinking about how we need to prepare to defend one another against whatever comes next.
The fight for trans rights certainly still needs to be at the forefront of our minds, and we also need to be watchful for this threat that is creeping out from the cesspool that is the conservative need for any kind of new "monster" to blame society's problems on.
-Sincerely, another trans therian.
The whole "litterboxes in schools/students identifying as cats/animals" thing started with conservatives who said "if we let people identify as another gender its only a matter of time before people start identifying as animals." These people are well aware that transgender does not mean somebody who identifies as a different species - their concept of nonhuman identifying folks absolutely is rooted in transphobia, but is not in and of itself necessarily about transgender folks.
Reality is, anti-trans legislation and anti-"furry" (read: therian, otherkin, transspecies, etc. - though furries who aren't part of these labels would ultimately be affected as well) legislation are two sides of the same coin - but they are still two distinct sides. That coin is the "divergent identities" coin (and really has many facets, not just two... so... perhaps more of a "divergent identities" cube?), as I'll call it. Anything that isn't cis, het, christian, human-identifying, etc. would be considered a "divergent" identity - a disorder, an illness, something to be cured, something to be eliminated.
Yes, anti-"furry" clauses have up until now been wrapped up with anti-transgender bills. That's conservatives trying to, pardon the horrible cliche, kill two birds with one stone - but one bird they are assuming exists/believe exists because of a sensationalist story, not because they necessarily know it actually exists. Make absolutely no mistake though, now that even the slight possibility of nonhuman identifying folks is on their radar, they are going to work to - in their mind - prevent it, and "cure" (read: eliminate by whatever means they feel necessary) it for whoever already fits that description.
Up until now, it's been a side issue. Something to just tack onto anti-trans bills. The fact that some jerk of a lawmaker decided that it was a strong enough issue on its own to create its own bill is concerning because this marks the first time that it is being treated less like a hypothetical or a side problem, and more like it's own separate issue worth addressing.
However, these two are part of the exact same fight, and cannot/should not be considered entirely separate. The fight is not just about "let trans people be trans," the fight is about "let people be whoever they are." That includes being any sexuality other than allo-het, that includes any religion other than christian (not necessarily an "identity", but still), that includes being anything other than cisgender, and yes, it includes identifying as any species other than human. The focus has recently been particularly targeted at trans folks, but remember that before it was trans folks, it was anyone who wasn't straight.
Conservatives always need a "monster" to defeat. They rely on the outrage of the ignorant and the bigoted in order to get what they want. Its why so many of their talking points aren't really about the economy or infrastructure but instead are about things like abortion, "illegal immigrants," non-Western nations in general, religions that are seen as "foreign" or "satanic," and any identity that isn't considered "normal." The reality is, issues like poverty, poor infrastructure, and prevalent violence are issues that can't just be solved in a day - but humans like quick fixes, so some folks (especially conservatives, though they're certainly not the only ones) think if they can blame all of these issues on anyone who is considered an "other," then many people will be quick to follow them in trying to eliminate the "other" and just push aside all of the real problems that continue to, in someway or another, benefit the people in power.
It only takes one conservative with even half a braincell to decide to google "people who identify as animals" after seeing that a bill was penned to target this specifically, to discover that we therians/otherkin/transspecies folks/etc. really do exist and that the identity is starting to gain more traction especially among youth (thanks, TikTok). I don't think the guy that penned this bill is that one conservative (this dude apparently once tried to create "bigfoot hunting season" so. y'know. i don't think he's doing much research about anything lmao), but with the media attention this bill has gained, it's only a matter of time.
HOWEVER - THIS IS NOT A TIME TO PANIC. I literally cannot stress this enough. Panic is not the response we need to have, but rather vigilance and preparedness for the day nonhuman identities eventually do find their way into the spotlight so that we can be ready for whatever we need to do to fight back against whatever future bills may follow.

Hey tumblr.
It's Luna, or more, someone of us who has no clue who they are right now. We feel like the embodiment of being sick and tired and just so done.
We have been thinking long and hard about what to write in this post or if we even want to make a post like this, but now that we're typing out these words, we don't know why we put it off so long.
We are permanently fucking off from the radqueer discourse. We can't take it anymore and we don't care anymore. We've lost all empathy and sympathy for everyone and everything involved in this shitshow, no matter which side they're on. The reason for this is not that we suddenly are neutral, we are still anti-radqueer, but we are so burned out and just start to dissociate the second we open the tags or see a radqueer post in the wild. We're naturally low empathy to begin with, but now every last ounce of that is completely gone when it comes to this topic, plus we just... don't care anymore. There's the 100th transnazi popping up? I don't care. Another "cisabuser" in the tags? doesn't matter. whatever. We're not a bad person, we are just done. We can't keep on doing this or this will eventually throw us into depression again and that might literally kill us. and I'm not going to let that happen.
when I think about radqueers, I feel so much anger, frustration and sadness - or more, that's what I felt. now all of that is just drowned by a dark cloud of tiredness and nothingness.
so, this is our goodbye. Knowing us, we will probably still roam the tags sometimes and depending who is fronting, some of us might even interact with discourse still, but like, officially, we are gone. (@ mod mew: if you could let us still have access to this account that would be dope af tho!)
I will also use this post to to encourage every anti-radqueer who's fighting tooth and nail to get blogs taken down and people banned, to step back for a minute, take a deep breath and think about if you really want to keep on doing this. we thought this would never take a mental toll on us, yet here we are. I'm not saying what you're doing is wrong, but I'm saying that maybe you could use your energy and will to fight for something else.
let's face it, radqueers will never be an actual threat to society. they are pathetic, sad people, hiding behind their screens, screaming "the future is radqueer!" over and over, but in reality this "movement" will burn to the ground eventually and they will go down with it.
do people get hurt in radqueer spaces? yes, they do and that's horrible (just a note as to how bad it's gotten with us: I write this and logically know that yes, it IS horrible - but I feel absolutely nothing. In all honesty, I currently don't care if people get hurt or not, because I can't care. it's like our brain shut off all emotions regarding this topic to protect ourselves). and I'm not saying you should stop offering them help, but I think you can stop worrying about the radqueers taking over society or whatever. if you feel this taking a toll on your mental health, please put yourself first. protecting your health and your life is always, ALWAYS more important that fighting strangers on the internet.
okay, in case you don't think of us as a total asshole with a heart of stone now and are interested in our plurality- and alterhumanity-focused tumblr life, here's out brand new system blog: @the-exodus-fleet And also our hosts blog: @talks-with-the-void
Take care of yourselves and thanks for every kind word and all the support we've got along the way /gen
PS: if any radqueer reads this and wants to celebrate this as a win or whatever, go ahead. if you need this to feel some joy in your sad, miserable little life, I'm not stopping you.
PPS: I still genuiely hope all radqueers eventually come to their sense and leave this bullshit ideology behind
PPPS: and to all radqueers who hide behind this label to abuse and groom other, I hope you lose all your friends and your family over this. you deserve no happiness.
#mod luna 🌙#this is probably the most politically incorrect post I've ever made#to be 100% open and honest I was THIS close to just add a bunch of threats and insults towards radqueers#I'm not a perfect person but I will not sink THAT low lmao#anyway we are dissociated to hell and back so. goodbye.#antiradqueer#anti radqueer#anti transx#anti transid#anti transabled

we’re a endo system who has been on tumblr for a little bit and are redoing certain aspects of our blog to be a bit more accurate! many of us are nonhuman in the headspace in one way or another (kin, holothere, etc). in addition to this, we’re all collectively a goop dog alien who also has parasites, or as we call them, “bugs”! we are physically goop, but are usually in a human form as it takes too much effort to intentionally shift so might as well stay in disguise. we are also able to rarely shift into other creatures, such as a jerboa, but we usually stay human or sometimes our true body. originally we were nervous about bringing up the whole physically nonhuman thing, but with the recent in holothere content, we decided to go ahead and show that part of ourselves to tumblr. also, we mostly use the color purple, despite the rainbow username so yeah.

System Questionaire
from this post here by @pluralasking
100 questions below the cut!
1. What is your System name and / or the name you collectively go by?
The Inmara
2. Which word do you prefer to use for your System? (example: System, Collective, Constellation, ...)
a plurality (but we're OK-ish with system)
3. What are your Systems origins, if you choose to label them?
our system itself is protogenic with a mix of spiritual and developmental/neurogenic explanations for it (we were born plural and born to be plural), but we've definitely also been shaped by trauma
4. Do you have any Subsystems?
yes, three - one each by hemisphere of the brain, and the third much smaller and somewhere in between (possibly the lymbic system)
5. Do you have any Sidesystems?
no
6. What is your opinion on you& / your& language and similar types?
we think language like this should exist, but we personally find those particular forms autistically grating. We've tried genuinely for years to get used to them, but just cannot.
7. What methodes do you use to keep track of your System and it's Members?
blogging, mostly, though we do have a wiki
8. What is your Systems ways of communication?
basically every way you can think of (even sometimes sticky notes, but usually talking out loud)
9. Is communication hard or easy for you (and why is it the way it is)?
super easy for most day to day communication, which makes the barriers that crop up during stressful times hard to predict, see coming, account for, and accommodate we were born plural and have never not been plural, our brain is set up to do this. but, of course, stress and distress and inner conflict throw up stronger dissociative and amnesiac barriers, and those can really screw us up, because we don't see them coming
10. Do you view yourselves as parts of one person or as multiple people in one body?
we are a people, multiple autonomous individuals, who function as a small nation, with a national identity, with access to this meat mech that works just a little bit like a jaeger from Pacific Rim, allowing us to drift when piloting it - we can pretend to be a single person when we need to, but we are not one person by any stretch of the imagination
11. Who are you out to as plural?
everyone except our doctors and the government
12. What languages do you collectively / one of you speak?
English. We have three conlangs, and we've studied Spanish, German, and a tiny bit of Korean, but we can't speak any of these other languages, unfortunately. There's some kind of cognitive barrier or disability preventing us from learning how.
13. What is something you can't seem to collectively agree on?
what an acceptable body would be like - how to treat our physical dysphoria - this is at the center of why we are plural in the first place
14. If you have a collective Identity (such as Gender or Orientation), what is it?
autistic, plural, intersex, disabled, trigender, trans, therian - we are the Ktletaccete (plus some Outsiders)
15. Do you collectively identify as queer / LGBTQIA+?
WE'RE QUEER. WE HERE. and you know the rest.
16. Do you collectively identify as Otherkin, Alterhuman or Nonhuman?
Therian is our third favorite word, and the most recognizable. Our second favorite is Other, with the capital O, from Wildbow's Otherverse. But, we are Ktletaccete
17. Do you have a collective rentry / carrd / something along those lines? (feel free to share!)
our wiki! http://www.inmara.world/
18. What does switching feel like for you?
most of the time, we don't even notice it. There are a range of sensations when we do notice it. The most common is that it's kind of like when the optometrist flips the testing lenses when you're looking through the scope. Sometimes it's way more full sensory and amazing and just hard to explain.
19. Are you Monoconscious, Polyconscious or something else?
pfft! These words are worthless to describe us! (Hydraconscious comes the closest, but is still wrong.)
20. What does fronting feel like for you?
Becoming the whomever is fronting. We all become them, those of us who are co-conscious, and see through their eyes and perspective. Leaving the front is like becoming whoever replaces us. Usually! We've also experienced some of the other descriptions other systems have given, but usually rarely and during great times of distress.
21. How many System members do you have?
Approximately 4 million. We grow by about 230 members a day. That's according to our census, which we've taken three times. We've hand counted nearly 300 members who've fronted and identified themselves. Believe what you will. This is our experience and what we say to respect ourselves.
22. Which word / words do you prefer to use for members of your System?
Members, sometimes headmates, sometimes sysmates, always people and beings. Some of us are the populace, liaisons, the Crew, the Senior Officers, our Parents, and the Outsiders.
23. Which age group seems to be the most common in your System?
hard to measure, not sure - age is a really weird thing to us and we kind of don't like it.
24. Which gender seems to be the most common in your System?
It's an even split between Dragon and Girl, as far as we can tell. Both are non-binary for us, but Girl is at least female, Dragon is Aporagender/Maverique.
25. Are there any talents / hobbies you picked up because of a Member?
Yes. Every single one. We each specialize in a hobby, special interest, skill, or blorbo.
26. Do you have any in-system relationships?
So many, it's impossible to count. Some of them are basically celebrity polycules and couples, though.
27. Do you label roles within your System (and if yes, which ones?)
The most important roles to us are Senior Officers, Liaisons, and Id Monsters (also a gender). We also have the temporary stations of Captain, Pilot, and Support Staff.
28. Are most of your Members introjected, brainmade or something else?
The vast majority of us are introjected, though we kind of really hate that word (we also hate "brainmade" but for completely different and petty/irrelevant reasons). More accurate: The vast majority of us are Liaisons, created by Akailea and the processes of our brain in order to track and understand individual people and characters from outside our system. We can call them factives and fictives, but they are conceived in our brain through the same processes most of the rest of us are, and just are basically method actors of their subjects (what others call "sources", though that's not accurate for us).
29. Do you use names, emojis or something similar to sign off messages (and if yes, which ones and why?)
No. There are way too many of us to do this.
30. Do any of your System members use Xenogenders?
Obviously, most outworlders these days would classify Dragon and Id Monster as xenogenders, but we fucking hate that. Xenogender is a perfectly fine word, but we had a perfectly fine word before it, aporagender, and xenogender implies that Dragon and Id Monster are constructs outside of human society and possible and they are not. Even though we ourselves are not human, our genders are absolutely how we interface with human society - they only matter when we're fronting. To us, they are human genders, imposed upon us by a human world.
31. How do Members pick face claims?
Every way you can conceivably imagine. But since we have fairly accomplished artists, we often just doodle something up until it feels right.
32. Do you have any Introjects of popular sources?
Every single one we've been exposed to, yes.
33. Do you have any Introjects of unpopular sources?
Every single one we've been exposed to, yes.
34. Do you have nonhuman Members?
Some of us play human really well, but we are all nonhuman.
35. Do any of you use Typing Quirks?
Nothing particularly contrived, but we do have different typing and writing habits.
36. Do all of you front, or only a selected amount?
We can have up to three people co-fronting, but that's a strain. Typically it's just one at a time. But we can have up to 18 or 19 members co-conscious with the fronter. Any one of us can front. The vast majority of us never do. It's a bottleneck, not be ability but just numbers.
37. Are there any Members who can't or prefer to not speak?
Yes. Notably Jenifer, one of our two eldest who were born with the body. She's the mother of everyone in the right hemisphere of our brain. She cannot talk without the assistance of other members, and very frequently chooses not to.
38. Are most of you short or tall in height?
We all shape shift. Most of us are Liaisons for human beings, so most of us settle in to average human height. Those of us who front frequently, however, are usually way outside of that range, either really tiny or enormoustly hugely big.
39. Is there a Member that is collectively loved by all in the System?
A few. With different feelings for each. Ink is our system baby, and everyone we know of loves her and considers her a symbol of why we're still alive. Jenifer is our system mother, and grandmother, and is adored and respected for that. Eh is our system parent, and is respected for having taken the Captain's chair for so long and managing our life before we came out as trans and plural. Phage is our Chief Monster, greatest protector, and spiritual hero. And we are all generally in awe of its presence in our system.
40. Do any of you struggle with being front-stuck a lot of the time?
No. Those of us who thought they did found out that they weren't, that is was an illusion created by our conscious gestalt.
41. Do you have a Headspace (if not, is there a reason)?
What do you mean by "a Headspace"? When we were introduced to that word, headspace meant any space created by and for any system member, and that if you had an inworld of any sort you would have many headspaces. We have an inworld. We have a conscious headspace, or fronting room, that we call the Bridge. We have many, many personal and collective headspaces.
42. What does your Headspace look like?
EVERYTHING - but with a definite horror movie cast to it
43. How do Members look like in Headspace? (example: Cartoony, Foggy, Realistic, ...)
Usually foggy to realistic. But there've been some cartoons, which is great. We all can shapeshift and take on various different forms and natures. And we all each also see the others differently, kinda Rashomon-like.
44. Is there a reason why the Headspace looks the way it looks?
A combination of hard work and visualization on our part, and lots of residual trauma and fear.
45. Is it easy for you to enter Headspace?
Those of us who are awake are in the Bridge always, and see that is as simple as paying attention to what's not being seen by our eyes. For the rest of our inworld? Not consciously, except when we fall asleep and dream, no. It's almost impossible for us to do it as a conscious group while awake. But a single individual leaving the front immediately enters it.
46. Do you remember what happened in Headspace when you switch into front?
Only what's happened on the Bridge. The Gestalt on the Bridge is so strong that it overrides working memories brought from inworld. Dreams are kind of the exception, but then basically the whole Bridge has been dreaming.
47. Does time in Headspace pass (and if yes, is it at the same speed as in real life)?
Yes, and absolutely not.
48. What is your favourite place in Headspace?
The Garden of the Sunspot. It's our internal recreation of the fictional world we've created for our novels that supposed to be an allegory of our system. We're trying to turn it into a paracosm, and we've been moderately successful, and we've seen it in dreams, and it's gorgeous and we are absolutely proud of it.
49. Are there "NPCs" within your Headspace?
No, there are 4 million system members. Every person we meet in a dream or in our inworld is a full blown person.
50. Are there any interesting fun facts about your Headspace?
See above, really.
51. Are there any "System Stereotypes" you fit into?
Absolutely. We're not going to list them. There's no need. If you've gotten this far, you can probably already name half of them.
52. Who of you would be considered the "evil alter"? (in a lighthearted, joking manner)
Phage (@ohthatphage) and a handful of the Id Monsters. Some of them actually nearly killed us during our worst times, but they are persecutors turned protector, in the simplest and clumsiest outworlder terms.
53. What is your favourite inside-joke with a Member?
Not with a single member, but all of us: We outnumber Portland We actually outnumber a lot of places even bigger than that, but Portland is the nearest city and it sounds funny.
54. What is your favourite Plural meme?
55. Is there any character that you headcanon as plural?
We headcanon the entire series of Steven Universe as a single plural system - and are fairly convinced that's actual canon, really. At least as an intentional metaphor that's implicit.
56. Is there any show or movie that you believe is a good plural representation, despite that not being its intention?
No. (those that are good rep were obviously intended to be)
57. Is there any song that you believe describes your plural experience?
We have a whole playlist. But "Here to stay" by Lenka is phenomenal and basically our system anthem.
58. What about an artwork that describes your plural experience?
It's really hard to encapsulate it in a piece of art, but the cover of our most recent book comes pretty close:
59. Which Member of your System do you believe to be the prettiest of them all?
We don't play that game. Standards of beauty vary too much and are also arbitrary and used to oppress people.
60. Do you collectively have a lucky number?
Not really?
61. When did you first discover your System?
Ah. Hm. Depends on who you ask. We publicly admitted and declared we were system in late August of 2016. But some of us noticed a lot earlier than that, while fronting even, such as sometime in 1995.
62. How many Members did you know about during your Syscovery?
For our public and full system realization: Three. Anne, Eh, and Phage. Then very quickly after we got Phage to front, we realized that I must be part of our system, too.
63. Was accepting your Plurality a challenge for you?
Absolutely. We didn't think plurality was a real thing until it smacked us in the face right after we came out as trans in 2015. We'd been a system since the mid 1970s, so that's a lot of time in the closet and in denial.
64. How did you learn about Plurality?
In fifth grade, in the mid eighties, a classmate had seen some awful movie or documentary about Multiple Personality Disorder, and everyone else told them it was fake.
65. Where there any signs of your Plurality, if you look back at your past?
Absolutely. Possibly the first outward sign being our "imaginary friend" Spitfire. But, at the very least, between 2012 and 2016, our ex-wife definitely noticed way before we did. But, also, our earliest memories from the crib are divided between our two eldest, Jenifer and Eh.
66. Do you think your Syscovery changed a lot in your life?
Definitely. It made us more psychologically stable and able to manage our disabilities more effectively. It made us so much happier. But, coming out as plural also disrupted our social life way more than coming out as trans ever did.
67. If you're out to others as plural, have they ever told you later on that they already thought about it before you realised?
Yep! Our ex-wife hugged us and cried when we finally admitted it, for instance.
68. What was the biggest struggle during your Syscovery?
Initially, the shock and fear of realizing that the person we thought we were literally didn't exist at all. That what we thought was a single consciousness and soul was actually constructed of millions of souls and awarenesses, each with their own identities and separate memories. Then it was realizing that our collective memories of our past could not be relied upon 100%. We get big things wrong all the time. It's still, like 99% accurate, but that 1% are a bunch of real doozies.
69. Was there any big event that led to your Syscovery?
Coming out as trans and then dealing with being trigender with conflicting dysphorias. This also affected us profoundly before we came out.
70. What is something you want questioning plurals to know?
It's OK. You're probably different from nearly every other conscious being. You can identify however you need to in order to make sense of what is happening in your mind. You get to.
71. Are you Neurodivergent (and if yes, how?)
This is a very silly question of anybody who is plural, because all pluralities are inherently Neurodivergent. Plurality is an atypical neurotype. But, we're Autistic, ADHD, Dyslexic, Synesthetic, Plural, C-PTSD/DID, and Therian, among other things.
72. Do you have any physical disability?
Yep. Some constellation of chronic illnesses, including endometriosis, and some kind of connective tissue disorder.
73. Do you have a dissociative disorder?
We have had DID. Maybe we still do according to the outworld, and for the purposes of certain discourse we will absolutely claim it. But, really, we're not in distress about our plurality and don't like fully embracing any outworld terms, so, it's not really a disorder to us? But it disables the shit out of us for the purposes of functioning like a neurotypical singlet who can work.
74. Do you have any other disorder?
C-PTSD, Endometriosis, dyspraxia, dyslexia, and a bunch of unidentified physical stuff.
75. Do symptom vary in intensity depending on the fronter?
Yep! Even for the physical stuff (thought that's usually a matter of endurance and freshness of tolerance)
76. Do you think your disability / disorder has an influence on your plurality?
probably
77. Do you have amnesia of any kind?
Hahaha! YEP! Usually tiny amusing things, but we've had full blackouts, and aren't fully aware of just how often.
78. Are there Members who deal better with symptoms than others?
Yes. But often it has more to do with who's been resting more lately.
79. Do your disorders / disabilities influence communication or switching within your System in any way?
Yep. Too many subtle ways to recount. Except that when our sensory processing disorder is triggered frequently, that's when our DID symptoms flare up big time and really disrupt our life.
80. Does being plural help with your disorders in any way? (example: another Member switching in to take care of the body during difficult times, ...)
Yep! By switching off to spell each other, we can manage things more easily. Division of labor, application of specialties and talents, that sort of thing. But also the simply emotional support of the whole system is huge. When an entire country has your back, it's powerful.
81. Which is your favourite plural flag?
This one seems pretty good, we think:
82. If you have one, which is your favourite plurality related tumblr blog?
Mine.
83. What is a fun fact about your System?
Gestures upward at the rest of the post. We exist and we're like that!
84. What is a flavour of ice cream that describes you collectively?
Harmless Free Radicals Mint Mocha Chocolate Chunk at Mallard Ice Cream in Bellingham Washington. We, uh, invented it. It's named after my comic.
85. Which pride flag is the prettiest, in your collective opinion?
The trigender pride flag:
86. If you collectively had to choose between being a sweet or a sour candy, which do you pick?
Sour. Like, the sourest. You know the one.
87. Your body always morphs into what the current fronter(s) look like, would you want this power or not?
We've been daydreaming about that power since we were three years old. It is basically a medical requirement for us. It is a moral imperative for anyone and everyone to figure out how to give us this ability.
88. Is there a Hatsune Miku in your System?
Oh, absolutely, of course. At least one.
89. Who has been in your System the longest (if you can remember)?
Jenifer and Eh (born with the body).
90. If you collectively had to choose, would you rather only eat sweet foods or only eat savoury foods for the rest of your life?
No. We will not choose.
91. If you collectively had to choose, would you pick to become a vampire or a werewolf?
werewolf
92. Your body is transfered into one of your Members sources, which do you pick and why?
Nimona. "Why?" you ask. *rolls eyes* See above.
93. If all of you turned into animals right this second, which animals would we find in your System?
94. What would a Minecraft server with all of your Members look like? (example: chaotic, peaceful, laggy, ...)
Laggy as fucking shit. Basically incapable of being run on anything but a supercomputer.
95. If you could choose between only living in Headspace or only living in Meatspace (real life), which would you choose?
Only living in Headspace. We collectively wish that Meatspace had never, ever existed. It's the Worst Thing Ever.
96. What topic would you collectively make a youtube channel about? (it can't be plurality!)
The Sunspot Chronicles - it'd essentially be a video version of a radio play or audio book, with animatics ideally
97. Which superpower would your body obtain, if you had to collectively decide on one?
Nimona.
98. Who would pick the coolest tattoo for the System and who would pick the worst?
We've all collectively picked the coolest tattoo that'd we'd get, Ink. It's possible that our Liaison for Trump would pick the worst. We just don't trust them, for obvious reasons. We wish they weren't in our system, but that's not how our system works.
99. If you only were allowed to eat one food for the rest of your life, but you would have to decide on the food collectively, what would it be and what would the decision making look like?
Pizza. That would be the healthiest food we could stick to eating with the widest variation.
100. What is the most fun about doing polls and answering questions, in your opinion?
Talking about ourselves. We're terrible like that. We want people to know who and what we are so we're not forgotten when we're gone. It may be our strongest collective fear.

pluralasking's 100 questions!!!!!! wow!!!!!!! I was bored at work lol answers under the cut
1. What is your System name and / or the name you collectively go by?
we're the milky way collective! shortened to milkcolle, but we're all fine getting referred to as seven. technicallyyyy that's nara's internet persona name, but we've all basically gotten used to it being used. so we're all fine with it!
2. Which word do you prefer to use for your System? (example: System, Collective, Constellation, ...)
we're a collective! we're fine with being called a system, since we are, but we use collective in our system name because at first we were really afraid to call ourselves a system or even plural! avoiding the term system in general made it easier for us while we figured things out and realized no, we aren't actually stealing a term not for us.
3. What are your Systems origins, if you choose to label them?
traumagenic did!
4. Do you have any Subsystems?
no idea, but we do have a lot of "groups".
5. Do you have any Sidesystems?
once again, not sure!
6. What is your opinion on you& / your& language and similar types?
im honestly not super familiar but like do what you want? lol. not for us though. just say "you guys" or something.
7. What methodes do you use to keep track of your System and it's Members?
mostly simplyplural at this point! plurali we use to share our list with our singlet friends. we had a neocities at one point but it started getting hard to update with every change. we also used to use pinterest? but then we had a lot of fusions and its likeeee cleaning it up is gonna be a huge task so we stopped using it.
8. What is your Systems ways of communication?
we usually can communicate pretty fine in the head! we don't really have an internal world though so a lot of it is just "I know this now that I'm fronting" or "we can talk but only when we're cocon".
9. Is communication hard or easy for you (and why is it the way it is)?
I mean I hear other systems can talk in their internal world? or have things happen when they're not fronting? so like. hard in comparison to that. sometimes we also get walled off. like now! we're recovering at the moment though so things should get better for our communication soon.
10. Do you view yourselves as parts of one person or as multiple people in one body?
we're individual people! we tend to think of all systems like this unless explicitly told not to.
11. Who are you out to as plural?
just online really! irl we could never talk about this kind of thing.
12. What languages do you collectively / one of you speak?
i meannnn we're only fluent in english. we have been learning japanese but we keep getting sidetracked now that we're not in traditional school learning it and have to self study. we can read hiragana and katakana and Some kanji. we really need to brush up on it though lollll someone yell at us to take out our genki book again
13. What is something you can't seem to collectively agree on?
aesthetic. most of us are into alt fashion but in different ways, and then there's the people who are like super normal and don't really give a fuck about how we present. ouji fashion vs sweatpants and a tshirt vibes lol
14. If you have a collective Identity (such as Gender or Orientation), what is it?
we're a gay gnc trans man collectively!
15. Do you collectively identify as queer / LGBTQIA+?
yes! nobody in our system is cishet anyway
16. Do you collectively identify as Otherkin, Alterhuman or Nonhuman?
yes! the line between kin and fictive is hard for us to identify, so we mainly just identify as fictionkin. if people aren't open to that kind of thing, we do also refer to ourselves as multifictives to help people understand better. a lot of us also consider themselves to be nonhuman otherkin, with many of us heavily identifying as related to the divine or the undead.
17. Do you have a collective rentry / carrd / something along those lines? (feel free to share!)
no, but our plurali is here!
18. What does switching feel like for you?
when we're not in a bad headspace, there's like a pressure in our head and we sort of lose focus for a bit before someone else hops in. if we're in a bad headspace, it's more like someone will lose their hold on front and we end up blurry, sometimes rapid switching for a while until someone can get back up to a solid front again.
19. Are you Monoconscious, Polyconscious or something else?
honestly I don't fully get this but I guess poly? we're all individual people. though we do have a lot of common knowledge and don't black out amnesia most of the time when we're mentally ok.
20. What does fronting feel like for you?
hi this is aira! sometimes there's a fog and I feel a little lightheaded, but normally it just feels like. existing? im just a guy.
21. How many System members do you have?
at the moment of typing: 35? maybe? again we're in a very weird mental situation and have made some changes but we're not sure how much is the dissociation making us think someone new split or if someone new actually split. because mistakes happen! often, actually! that's dissociation for you lol
22. Which word / words do you prefer to use for members of your System?
alters and headmates!
23. Which age group seems to be the most common in your System?
mostly adults in their 20s. and I mean. bodily we're 25, so
24. Which gender seems to be the most common in your System?
most of us are masc, either binary men or nonbinary men.
25. Are there any talents / hobbies you picked up because of a Member?
i got us back into watching anime, though I really like shoujo and the others aren't super into it? meanwhile nara got me and lambda into jfashion (mainly jirai). also dromi is the main reason we play genshin, even though we started playing for maki lol
26. Do you have any in-system relationships?
i think nara and lucio are still /r???????? and there's also maybe something going on with nara and evie but who knows. but most of our relationships are familial! we have a lot of siblings and siblinglikes in here.
27. Do you label roles within your System (and if yes, which ones?)
roles are very fluid! so we don't! plus not everyone has a role, and we don't like the idea that there has to be some larger meaning for someone in our system to exist.
28. Are most of your Members introjected, brainmade or something else?
again, complicated! we rely on fictional identities to have a sense of self. we're like a bunch of fictional characters stitched together. but aren't singlets like that with the people they've met throughout their lives too?
29. Do you use names, emojis or something similar to sign off messages (and if yes, which ones and why?)
emojis! if you look back in our system tag (🌌) you'll be able to find our explanation.
30. Do any of your System members use Xenogenders?
I think ben like? identifies more as a computer bug than any gender.
31. How do Members pick face claims?
usually it's kin stuff honestly. except for io. they're not kin from hsr (probably. we haven't actually started to play yet), they just kind of look like that. one day I knowwww it's gonna confuse someone.
32. Do you have any Introjects of popular sources?
I mean it depends what you consider popular? but like we have danganronpa, nintendo, genshin, etc characters if that means anything.
33. Do you have any Introjects of unpopular sources?
hellloooo to all of our idols and joseimuke characters. shuuen. and then ren is two different pitchloids that were only popular in like 2012.
34. Do you have nonhuman members?
yes but everyone is humanoid. so like. angels. ghosts. demons. etc.
35. Do any of you use Typing Quirks?
maki talks like a lolXDsorandom scene kid and uses kaomoji does that count
36. Do all of you front, or only a selected amount?
we all have fronted! not all of us are frequent fronters though. I'm probably like. top most frequent honestly. and then bottom is like. crow maybe. but that's because he's a bit more fragmented.
37. Are there any Members who can't or prefer to not speak?
waka (our little) struggles with speaking and talks mainly in the third person in kind of fragmented sentences, but that's kind of it?
38. Are most of you short or tall in height
don't talk down to us just because we're short kings lollllll
39. Is there a Member that is collectively loved by all in the System?
rey. 100000% rey. maki also because he's literally the best ever.
40. Do any of you struggle with being front-stuck a lot of the time?
sometimes? not enough for it to be a big issue though.
41. Do you have a Headspace (if not, is there a reason)?
no we have that thing where we have issues with visualization. if a number gets skipped, assume it was a headspace question that we can't answer
43. How do Members look like in Headspace? (example: Cartoony, Foggy, Realistic, ...)
sorry not sorry for being a bunch of anime characters?????
46. Do you remember what happened in Headspace when you switch into front?
yes and no? sometimes we'll have a general Feeling of something having happened or having talked about something. bleeding thoughts maybe? idk
51. Are there any "System Stereotypes" you fit into?
idk what any stereotypes are honestly but I feel like I always see people fakeclaim people for having introjects and specifically for having danganronpa and genshin introjects and it's like ooooooops dangankins and genshinkins in this head
52. Who of you would be considered the "evil alter"? (in a lighthearted, joking manner)
probably lucio honestly LOL or dromi because of the cannibalism support
53. What is your favourite inside-joke with a Member?
once ren said baller and he's not allowed to live it down
54. What is your favourite Plural meme?
nervous system when the confident system walks in (and it's like. hitsugi and shu enstars)
55. Is there any character that you headcanon as plural?
ame/k-angel is the first that comes to mind! also randal and satoru.
56. Is there any show or movie that you believe is a good plural representation, despite that not being its intention?
honestly jojo part 5 was kind of awesome. thanks for the plural rep!!! still think it's crazy how people on twitter baby doppio though like that's a grown ass man with a child. once again randal and satoru also read as plural to me and I love their writing a lot!
57. Is there any song that you believe decribes your plural experience?
ghost (vocaP) in general has a lot of songs that really speak to our mental illness. big fan of uncanny which is literally written about being plural.
58. What about an artwork that describes your plural experience?
honestly not sure! but I think it's always really nice seeing fanart of your source that really does feel like it represents you. like ill never forget how happy io was to see a single piece of fanart of iori with super long hair. because that's them!
59. Which Member of your System do you believe to be the prettiest of them all?
this is hard because I feel like if we said anyone but joshua he'd kill us but alsoooo if we said anyone but yoh they'd also kill us.
60. Do you collectively have a lucky number?
we like 3!
61. When did you first discover your System?
late 2019 was our full system awakening but we did realize and then immediately forget back in like. 2016? maybe?
62. How many Members did you know about during your Syscovery?
3? I think? nara maki and dell. though at the time im prettyyyy sure dell was dormant so it was just nara and maki for months.
63. Was accepting your Plurality a challenge for you?
very much! we were sure we were faking it and lying and stealing terms that weren't for us.
64. How did you learn about Plurality?
we had plural friends growing up!
65. Where there any signs of your Plurality, if you look back at your past?
us and our imaginary friends (all of which were alters) against the world
66. Do you think your Syscovery changed a lot in your life?
100%! I feel like for as bad as things get sometimes, we're functioning a lot better in certain aspects of our life. plus, it's nice to know we're not alone! sometimes we do wish we never found out, mainly socially, but having people who accept us is really nice.
67. If you're out to others plural, have they ever told you later on that they already thought about it before you realised?
yes lol
68. What was the biggest struggle during your Syscovery?
one of the main reasons we dislike sys/course is because it held us back from realizing we were a system. fakeclaimers were scary as fuck and we were convinced we were subconsciously faking. I know nara and maki struggled a lot with questioning if the other was real or just a delusion because we did struggle with those often before our current meds.
69. Was there any big event that led to your Syscovery?
not really? mainly nara kept looking at his imaginary friend in adulthood maki and was like. ok something is up here. and then we realized.
70. What is something you want questioning plurals to know?
it's ok to be wrong! you're not a bad person for questioning your plurality and ending up not being plural/having a different disorder. you weren't tricking anyone. so long as you respect the community, and don't go on to start fakeclaiming others, you're fine!
71. Are you Neurodivergent (and if yes, how?)
we are autistic! we might have adhd also but we don't want to say anything definitively
72. Do you have any physical disability?
we don't that we know of!
73. Do you have a dissociative disorder?
yes, DID.
74. Do you have any other disorder?
not going to reveal everything in one place but bpd and ocd are probably the disorders we struggle with the most.
75. Do symptom vary in intensity depending on the fronter?
yes! mainly bpd. some people it's all consuming, other people don't really get impacted as much.
76. Do you think your disability / disorder has an influence on your plurality?
probably! we've split a lot because of our symptoms.
77. Do you have amnesia of any kind?
mostly emotional amnesia. sometimes blackout amnesia, but usually just during very stressful periods.
78. Are there Members who deal better with symptoms than others?
mentioned earlier but yeah, especially with bpd.
79. Do your disorders / disabilities influence communication or switching within your System in any way?
when we're deep in an episode, any kind of episode, it's pretty much impossible for us to communicate. lots of walls.
80. Does being plural help with your disorders in any way? (example: another Member switching in to take care of the body during difficult times, ...)
it's helpful to be able to get different points of view from different members. writing down opinions on our problems is really helpful.
81. Which is your favourite plural flag?
i've only seen the white yellow black one tbh
82. If you have one, which is your favourite plurality related tumblr blog?
can I say fkf. we've been a regular for years and fictives are more than welcome.
83. What is a fun fact about your System?
ohhhh this is hard. king has umanoprincesama (the japanese title of the my horse prince app) as his twitter handle. he hardly uses it anymore though.
84. What is a flavour of ice cream that describes you collectively?
maki says birthday cake. he won't explain why lol
85. Which pride flag is the prettiest, in your collective opinion?
i know we like the wlw and mlm flags! we like the flowers.
86. If you collectively had to choose between being a sweet or a sour candy, which do you pick?
probably sweet? we love sugar.
87. Your body always morphs into what the current fronter(s) look like, would you want this power or not?
absolutely oh my god. though we are working on making a collective singlet sona
88. Is there a Hatsune Miku in your System?
...kind of? she uses miku as a faceclaim.
89. Who has been in your System the longest (if you can remember)?
we aren't sure! our candidates are like. maki dromi and waka.
90. If you collectively had to choose, would you rather only eat sweet foods or only eat savoury foods for the rest of your life?
ohhhh this is hard. I think savory but I know we'd be missing dessert hard. but we can't live without gyudon.
91. If you collectively had to choose, would you pick to become a vampire or a werewolf?
we're split on this. I think we lean more vampire though.
92. Your body is transfered into one of your Members sources, which do you pick and why?
pokemon obviously lol
93. If all of you turned into animals right this second, which animals would we find in your System?
too many of us for me to assign fursonas to everyone but like. birds. cats. bunnies. that kinda vibe?
94. What would a Minecraft server with all d your Members look like? (example: chaotic, peaceful, laggy, ...)
we haven't played minecraft much actually so I couldn't tell you! when I played I personally just liked building. but I know that a lot of people in our system would absolutely sabotage shit lol
96. What topic would you collectively make a youtube channel about? (it can't be plurality!)
hmmmm we aren't as into them anymore because of the fandom but mobile gacha games probably! i personally love idol games forever thanks
97. Which superpower would your body obtain, if you had to collectively decide on one?
shapeshifting!!!!!!
98. Who would pick the coolest tattoo for the System and who would pick the worst?
king would pick the worst everyone else feels passable except maybe nicola but king would get something dumb as fuck tattooed just because it's funny
99. If you only were allowed to eat one food for the rest of your life, but you would have to decide on the food collectively, what would it be and what would the decision making look like?
gyudon. like. I don't think that's even a question. we collectively fucking love gyudon.
100. What is the most fun about doing polls and answering questions, in your opinion?
we like getting to communicate more and express ourselves as plural! it's nice. we get scared to express ourselves on a lot of other websites so it's cool to be ourselves here and talk about ourselves openly

Culturally Cats
So we consider ourselves culturally cats. Which is, probably an out-there thing to say so lets back up.
We have a shared cat identity that presents differently in each of us. We believe we are this way largely in part because we were raised with cats and largely raised by cats. Our cat did more parenting than anyone else for a certain stretch of time in our lives. This system has been treated like an animal by others for a very long time as well. Is it any wonder the brain imprinted on cats and not humans?
Our socialization was done in large part by cats, and we learned cat social rules and cat manners painstakingly. Cats patiently interacted with us when other humans wouldn’t. Its cat behavior that is natural to us. We aren't a feral child - we were not totally isolated at a young age for a prolonged period of time, but we were not properly tamed and human-socialized either.
There are many definitions for culture. The one we are going to be using is that culture is a transmitted set of learned behaviors of a particular group or community.
We share much of our behavior with cats, because that’s from whom we learned how to behave- as other venues were often hostile for reasons we didn’t understand. Interactions with cats feel natural and are easy the way people are not. It can be argued, and we are doing so, that our learned behaviors from our positive socialization mostly coming from cats growing up are therefore cultural behaviors.
From our proximity to cats and our neurology shaped by what was consistently kind to us and showed us how to behave during our formative years, its the closest thing to a concrete origin for our shared feline identity that we can find. Being Cat is natural to us the way speaking and reading English is natural to all of us. Defining it as just ‘psychological in origin’ is fine, but we can go deeper- and perhaps in doing so may give important words to others for whom this applies. We were raised cat, so we ARE cat.
Calling our feline identity cultural in origin will likely ruffle some feathers, but its the most fitting word phrase for it. This learned behavior and imprinting effects our neurology such that even new headmates are always cat-alligned or become cat-alligned over time. They may be anything from felinehearted to a cat otherlink, to a cat-adjacent nonhuman of some kind, but everyone here has wound up with a cat-related identity somehow if they were not already as such. The brain was raised cat, so cats and cat-adjacent we are.
Hence- culturally cats.
Defining ‘Cultural Nonhuman’.
We suppose this could be considered a coining post for alterhuman vocabulary -as we do not mind if others take up our personal label as well- so we will give a proper definition of this term.
A cultural nonhuman may be defined as someone who in part or in whole considers themselves culturally a nonhuman entity.
This includes both those who consider themselves to have a nonhuman cultural upbringing but don't necessarily identify as nonhuman, and those who identify their origin of nonhumanity as cultural.
Cultural nonhumanity is intended to involve only experiences that happened to the vessel, not exomemories.
This can be a standalone label or a supplement to an existing one.
People who can claim this include but are not limited to:
Those who identify as having been raised by, raised alongside, or otherwise socialized by animals in an identity-altering way.
Those who wish to consider their marginalization or dehumanization a nonhuman cultural upbringing.
Correct word usage includes: ‘I am a cultural nonhuman’, ‘my nonhumanity is cultural’, ‘I am culturally a (species)’.
Some examples: ‘Jane is a cultural nonhuman and considers herself doghearted’, ‘Jack is a transspecies goat whos nonhumanity is cultural’, ‘Juice is a cat therian and xe considers xer theriotype origin to be cultural’.
Differences from Voidpunk- A cultural nonhuman may choose to call themselves voidpunk, and vice versa, as dehumanization from society on a wide scale due to marginalization can count as cultural nonhuman thing, but not all those who are voidpunk are culturally nonhuman, and not all cultural nonhumans are voidpunk.
Differences from psychological origin- ‘Cultural nonhuman’ can be considered a type of psychological origin, but not all psychological alterhumans are culturally nonhuman.
!THERE IS NO OFFICIAL FLAG OR SYMBOL FOR THIS TERM PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ONE UNLESS A SIGNIFICANTLY LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE START USING THIS TERM AND SAID COMMUNITY WAS WIDELY CONSULTED ABOUT IT THANK YOU!

Fictionkin musings
First of all, I'm aware that a reason a lot of alterhuman's have a kind of...weariness, misunderstanding or confusion about fictionkin is the same reason they have it about any kintype that is largely humanoid in shape or appearance. For example, an angel, ghost or a humanoid android. That is, there seems to be a general feeling of if it's 'basically a human' then there somehow wouldn't be the same experience of nonhumanity or altered humanity? Now that is largely a concept and talk for another post, but it links back to fictionkin and the a large basis or why people look at it as 'you must just be projecting' or 'it's a comfort character'. I mention it as a way to say that I understand why you would go down that path of thinking, as it does seem 'entirely different' from an outsiders point of view. There are lot of otherkin out there right now identifying as 'fictional' or just 'unproven/mythical' if you will, animals or creatures that don't get looked on as critically, though of course still receive plenty of questions and invalidation from time to time. The lesser gatekeeping on say, a general dragon, as opposed to someone who identifies as Tohru (Kobayashi) is because people understand the 'other' meaning 'different from being a human(oid)'. Which is again, understandable, although everyone would be wise to remember the large community of elfkin who were there from the beginning, far far before there were any internet communities let alone of this size to invalidate their humanoid appearance. But what's to say that 'other' can't mean 'different from the current you'? Or simply 'having lived a life in an identity other than your current life'? Or 'identifying as someone or something other than your current self'? Whether or not you believe in the multiverse therefore, shouldn't matter. People identify truly as fictionkin or some variation with the same intensity, seriousness and feelings that your regular catkin feels about being a cat. If they believe they were that character in another universe, are still that character in that universe by some connection, are that character but from an AU canon, are that character because of psychological reasons, were always that character but were memory locked until the media existed here, or could only have a connection to that life once the media existed here or they just don't know why what they do know is that the character is them etc it doesn't matter. They are that character and embracing that part of their identity in a healthy way can only be beneficial for that person, allowing them to be who they are as a whole.
And oh yeah, a common factor between animal otherkin and fictionkin is that this is not a choice. We do not choose our fictionkin identities (unless it's copyinglink perhaps) any more than a wolfkin chooses to be a wolf just because that's a cool and popular animal. And yes, it can cause dissonance to look at yourself and not have the hair, eyes, face, voice, gender etc that you remember. To not live where you once lived, or know the people you once knew. Even if the character you are had no special gifts or powers, you can feel like you're living the wrong life. And so what if that character was the person's fave first before they realised it was a kintype? Or it's a popular character from popular media? Can you honestly say that there are no otherkin who aren't 'popular animals' or animals that started out as childhood faves? Lemme tell ya, I'm not even kin with the character I changed my name to when I transitioned, let alone my fave from every piece of media I consume. Deep analysis and thought is given by a good majority of sincere fictionkin at all times. But maybe someone out there is kin with someone from every piece of media they have ever enjoyed, so what? If they understand that it's 'as' and not 'with', they aren't KFF and they mean it seriously. It doesn't matter that fictionkin is the most common label for KFFers because they misunderstand us and the whole community. Sincere fictionkin exist and we belong to the alterhuman community, we need a place to be someone or something 'other' than 'us' without judgement or being told we're just roleplaying or playing pretend.

answers below cut (oh boy this might take a while)
1. What is your System name and / or the name you collectively go by?
Radio Static Sys, our collective name is Rocky
2. Which word do you prefer to use for your System? (example: System, Collective, Constellation, ...)
Whatever one sounds the coolest & is within our comforts tbh. we usually go with system, but we DO like to call ourselves a fusion ::)
3. What are your Systems origins, if you choose to label them?
uhhhhh cryptogenic. we’re literally not sure, we don’t know. but we think it may be traumagenic.
4. Do you have any Subsystems?
don’t think so
5. Do you have any Sidesystems?
don’t think so
6. What is your opinion on you& / your& language and similar types?
we are confused about it? like we get what it’s supposed to be and we don’t really care if other systems use it cuz they want to, but to us it kind of sounds like you’re addressing one person that leads a group of people and we’d really not rather be seen like that.
7. What methodes do you use to keep track of your System and it's Members?
we try to use SP but that does not usually work because of our memory issues. we forget to take people out of front and they end up in the front history fronting for way longer than they actually did. we journal it or do nothing about it most of the time.
8. What is your Systems ways of communication?
we make jokes. have introspective discussions. i don’t know. we’re not in any way organized.
9. Is communication hard or easy for you (and why is it the way it is)?

yes definitely absolutely
17. Do you have a collective rentry / carrd / something along those lines? (feel free to share!)

19. Are you Monoconscious, Polyconscious or something else?
polyconscious probably

On Constructs and Models
In my opinion, none of our alterhuman narratives are some kind of Universal Truth. Neither is the Western transgender narrative, or the inclusive plurality narrative, or the exact categories used to define mental illness. All of these things are constructs, models, and tools. They are ways of viewing ourselves and the world, and can be extremely helpful in doing so. These ideas are based in meaningful experiences and legitimate psychology, but it would be possible to create different labels and models based on the same information. I don't think there's any model that could perfectly describe the experiences of every single person on Earth. Some models are more inclusive and supportive than others (for instance the "gender is a spectrum" mindset vs. the traditional gender binary), but none are perfect. We all craft boxes, words and stories to help our existences make sense, and the fact that these ideas are socially constructed does not make them illegitimate or “fake”.
In my opinion what this arbitrariness does mean is that people should be allowed to define themselves as they see fit, even if their definitions fall outside of the typical community models (which include concepts like species identity, kintype vs.heart-type, shifting, and voluntary vs. involuntary). We should acknowledge the choice that individuals have to adopt or reject labels, or to choose between them when there's ambiguity. Using labels like "otherkin" and "therian" is optional, using the "I was born this way" contruct is optional, defining one's traumatic plurality through the medical lens is optional. These models change over time - the way therianthropy is processed today is different from how "weres" viewed themselves a few decades ago. And if someone wanted to define themself based on the old “were” narrative, I see no problem with that.
We don't need to compromise the models themselves - aside from gradual organic changes definitions can be maintained. But when it comes down to an individual, I support freedom and choice. I didn't choose to be multiple nonhuman species, but I can choose to prefer simple terms like "nonhuman" over "polytherian". If someone has experiences that fit within both the nonbinary and genderqueer labels, but they choose to only call themself genderqueer, I'm not going to contradict them. Self-definition is something that belongs to us as individuals, and it's Power. No one can tell me based on their own experiences that I must be *factually* [insert label], because none of this has a universal or factual basis. We have a common language because the models we have make sense for most of us and allow for community and communication. But I have no right to push the way I define MY experiences on to someone with similar experiences (ex. "I define my attraction to men, women, and nonbinary people as bisexual rather than pan, so you need to do the same!").
Generally questions like "Are people who have voluntary experiences still otherkin?" are answered as if the concept of "otherkin" is a physical, provable truth. If anything, the more accurate question is "Should people with these experiences be included within the otherkin model, or should a separate model be created?" So many people subconsciously believe that a therian is *objectively* a therian in some material way, that there is a mythical Essential Truth that sets our experiences and internal realities in stone. And unfortunately some of these people belief THEY are the arbiters of that truth, a belief that is the very foundation of gatekeeping.
Due to my philosophy on social constructs I am very much a "live and let live" kind of person. If someone speaks for the whole community and says "otherkin is a coping mechanism" - then sure, I'll respectfully point out that that definition is not congruent with how the majority of otherkin define it. But if someone says "My kintype originated from coping, but my experiences are most similar to otherkin so I choose to use that label and spend my time in that community" I'll say "Sure, do what works for you. It’s none of my business, it's your life and I don't know you better than you know you". Some people will insist that someone is “actually” a therian or “actually” otherhearted, but ultimately I believe there is no “actually”. Only subjective experiences and the way we choose, collectively AND individually, to define them.
Ultimately, the models we make to describe our identities and experiences are incredibly valuable. They're worth gold, when it comes to the power they have to empower, validate, and bring us together. But treating them as fact and refusing to acknowledge their arbitrariness undermines the people whose experiences fall outside of them - and no matter how good a model is those people will always exist. The “fact” mindset ignores the power of choice that we have when it comes to self-definition, and the validity of exercising that choice in a unique or unexpected way. It also implies that anyone who is knowledgable about the basic models can know how what a stranger's identity "really is". And I will fight fang and claw against the idea that one person's identity is within the jurisdiction of anyone else.

Ack I've joined the essay train. More under the cut~
---------
As it stands now, I fit into two categories under the alterhuman umbrella: otherkind and otherhearted. The details get a little wishy-washy with labels around my otherkin identity...draconic, dragonkin, dragonkind, theriomythic, what-have-you, but the general gist is I'm a dragon, and that's that. I'm also domestic cat-hearted, cheetah-hearted, and Andalite-hearted. I enjoy these creatures, but I'm not them.
But, how do I know?
First of all, I suppose it's not possible to ever really know for sure. Our experiences are subjective and open to interpretation, and even those who've contemplated their identities for years can see them change or need reevaluation in the light of new information. Even so, at this point I can say with fair certainty that I'm a dragon, and not a cat, or a cheetah, or an Andalite.
I've loved cats for as long as I can remember, and begged my parents relentlessly for a kitten even before I was in kindergarten. I gained an intense obsession with cheetahs around that time too, and used to run around the house pretending to be one. I drew house cats and cheetahs incessantly on scraps of computer paper, alongside my innumerable dragon sketches. My mom, being allergic to cats, nixed the idea of getting me a cat at first, but a stray tuxedo kitten showed up at her work, and in the absence of an allergic reaction, she caved and brought the kitten home for a trial run as a pet. The cat ended up staying with us for 18 years. Oh how I loved that cat. I'd sit on the floor next to her and eat dry cereal from a bowl while she ate her kibble, I'd follow her around, nap with her, brush her, and dress her up to my heart's desire. I'd meow and hiss, I'd sharpen my fingernails to be more cat-like, and I convinced my parents to buy me tickets to the Cats musical, where I dressed up as my tuxedo cat for the show. I know cat body language exceptionally well, and can usually figure out pretty quickly what a cat wants or how it's feeling, and I've picked up lifelong feline mannerisms from being around cats since my childhood.
But, I'm not a cat.
Cats feel like family, and I'm thrilled to meet new cats, hang out with my cats, or look at cute art of cats. I will probably own cats for as long as I live. But they're little creatures I surround myself with that move and act in a way I've never felt a pull toward at an identity level.
I grew up reading K.A. Applegate's Animorphs series, and instantly fell in love with her blue centaur aliens, the Andalites. They were weird and funny, and had kickass scythe tails to boot. I'd run around on the playground with my friends at recess, and we'd pretend we were Andalites or other characters from the books. As I grew up, I never quite forgot about Andalites, and came to the abrupt realization recently that I'm probably Andalite-hearted. I was falling asleep one night and the realization that I really vibed with Andalites struck me out of nowhere. They feel familiar and interesting, and somehow important to me. I enjoy the fact that they exist, and I get a kick out of their species design, and they're just darn cool. The last time I read an Animorphs book was in middle school, but I've been thinking about Andalites ever since.
But I'm not an Andalite.
Nothing about their species fits with my experiences as nonhuman, and while I get a warm sense of familiarity when I think about them or interact with media involving them, that sense of familiarity doesn't extend to descriptions of their customs or planet. They'd make a darn cool linktype though, now that I think about it.
A handful of years ago, I spent hundreds of hours researching and writing about an odd seabird called a streaked shearwater. It's a member of the tube-nosed seabirds (of which albatrosses are also members), and likes to nest in burrows on hills above the ocean. It's an excellent flyer, and it can travel immense distances with speed and incredible grace. A couple months into my studies, I had a vision of myself as a shearwater, with white wings spread out to the night sky. I don't typically imagine myself as other animals, so when I had this vision, the intensity startled me, and I began to question if this was a theriotype. I'd spent a month or so doing fieldwork in a shearwater colony, and during my time there, I always felt a longing to leap out from the cliffs and fly over the ocean, and greatly enjoyed crawling around in the dirt and leaves to check on the birds incubating eggs in their burrows. Maybe there was more to that enjoyment than I thought.
Yet, when I imagined myself as a shearwater, flying over cliffs out to the ocean, I was not the bird itself; I was present in its body, but numb and unaware of what the bird's body was doing. I wasn't present mentally in its movements or senses. It was almost as if I were tagging along with the animal itself or hitching a ride, so to speak. Upon further exploration of what I imagined feeling like a shearwater should feel like, from a physical standpoint, I found it unnatural and almost horrifying to imagine my feet moulded into the adorably flappy webbed feet of a seabird, or to have a bristle of feathers sticking out as a tail. The bill felt like a deformed mask, the wings wrong, and the squat duck-like body felt ungainly. The thought of soaring on the night wind was enticing, but beyond that, it was uncomfortable and felt like nothing more than a cameo.
But what happens when the cameo shifts do feel right?
On and off for a few years, I'd have envisage shifts or phantom shifts of tufted cat ears overlaying where my human ears are. They were long and tan, and not really of any feline species I'm aware of, but close enough to a lynx that'd I'd probably describe them as such. I could imagine them flattening or perking up, depending on the situation and my mood. They'd come and go, and weren't really triggered by anything as far as I could tell. Their frequency followed a similar pattern to my draconic shifts...some weeks frequent, with some long periods of complete absence. They've since vanished, and I haven't noticed them around for a good couple years now. I can't say I miss them, but honestly, they were kind of fun, and they never felt particularly wrong, unlike my jaunt in a shearwater's body. However, I never felt an attachment to them identity-wise, and despite sticking around for a good few years, I never felt anything more associated with the shifts beyond some cat ears pasted on my human head (worth noting, my draconic shifts and cat ear shifts never overlapped! No cat-eared dragons here). I don't know where they came from and I don't know where they went. I'm not a lynx, and they were simply a cameo.
Perhaps I'm wrong about all these things, and I'm a draconic, feline, Andalite polykin, but exploring how differently I experience my draconity versus feline, cheetah, and Andalite-heartedness, I'm extremely inclined to believe these are a collection of different identities and cameo shifts. My identity isn't pulled toward shearwaters or lynx like it is toward my variety of western dragon or toward the idea of surrounding myself with cats, cheetahs, and Andalites. They all have distinct feelings, as hard as they are to put into words.
#pretty sure I started writing this four years ago and just today found the doc with the main ideas jotted down#whoops#someday I'll finish my WIPs#thoughts#essays#by me#otherkin#otherkind#otherhearted

Hello there! I've been questioning lately if I might be otherkin or otherhearted. I've checked out your post on terminology and how to go about questioning, and I'm still working thru that whole process, but I had a question. I've seen a couple times this term I'm completely unacquainted with, so I thought I would just like, ask what it is lol. Do you mind explaining what wishkin is for a new maybe-member of the alterhuman community? Thx in advance, and I hope you're having a great day!
Not a problem, and I’m glad you asked, because this is absolutely something you need to know. (And yes, I’m having a good day. I’m reading Toby Daye (excellent faerie series) and I have chips and my mate, so all is good.)
Wishkin is an old term, and we use it kind of because we have to. Tumblrkin is a subset of wishkin that is, you know, got its own brand of tumblr-being-godawful. Basically, wishkin is someone who warps the definition of ‘kin until they can fit in it even though they don’t actually do. Someone who wants really really hard for it to be real that they demand everyone else change to include them. If like... You experiment with labels and try to figure out if this community that’s calling to you is you or not, that’s not wishkin.
When we say wishkin, it’s a term based out of people with malicious intent. If you’re genuinely trying to learn and see if you fit, then you probably don’t fit the term.
You’ve doubtless seen the kids that go “Yeah I kin whatshisface from Undertale, doubles are fake and none of you are me, and you can’t draw this because I’m whatshisface and I said so, and if you kin something I personally deem harmful then you’re a pedophile / rapist / whatever the buzzword of the day is and you should kill yourself”. That’s tumblrkin, and wishkin as a whole do much the same.
I don’t mind people who are ignorant and trying to learn. We like helping. But people who stick their fingers in their ears and yell when we try to teach them, who insist people who have been here for 5+ years are wrong and delusional, who make a mockery of our community and misuse our terms so they can play games and use our community to start cults and get power trips, well, we don’t like them.
I can’t find the post on it right now for the life of me, but I have a post somewhere deep in my blog screenshotting a wishkin telling everyone what they’re allowed to be ‘kin of (no Problematic(TM) people, you know the type) and a few greymuzzles and I bitched about what wishkin keep doing.
The hard part about them is that yeah, you can usually see most trolls at a glance, but you need practice to be able to tell all wishkin from otherkin at a glance. Like, if someone’s saying “wah I’m a piece of grass and pots are slavery” they’re a troll, you don’t need practice to know that. But someone saying “I’m ‘kin as a coping mechanism please don’t yell at me” and then plugs their ears when you point out that’s copinglinking and insists that you’re actually kinphobic is wishkin, but might not look that way at first glance.
Effectively, they’re the people faking and misconstruing terms to get what they want. It meshes with purity culture and the idea that we can’t hurt fictional characters for they are just as real as real people and hurting them is a Harmful Activity you should be in jail for, because how better to shut someone down than to say you’re the character, and doing something you don’t like to said character is hurting you and they should go to jail and stop being so evil?
If by this point you want a drink, join the club, I’ll tell you about the booze from the Song World.
You’ll understand wishkin more when you see them in action. If you really have a few braincells to spare, take a trip through my ‘kin drama //’ tag and you’ll get wishkin, bad takes, and antikin all in one go. (Also, forgive the post I made a long-ass time ago about worship being bad. I have since learned better, thanks to a few patient folks explaining again the rules of BDSM to my inexperienced self. Bless them for being so patient with me.)

Also adding on! Systems of any kind, and various experiences within them, are also alterhuman. They have been since the coining post.
Huge pet peeve of ours when people equate alterhumanity to just meaning "nonhuman", but also considering how common systems are in the community, it's always been weird to us how even we are overlooked. We absolutely agree with all of the above though (and we'll need to check out a few of these links later ourselves).
Plural: Multiple people in a body, to keep it simple. Morethanone is a good place to get a neat little rundown.
Fictive: A person in a system who is from a fictional source. They may or may not identify as that character in question.
Factive: Like fictive, but with factbased sources instead. Historical figures, celebreties, other people, etc.
Extranth: A member of a system who is nonhuman--specifically in a way similar to fictives and factives, and separate from otherkin. (Coining post).
Soulbond: A connection formed with a (usually) fictional character in someones mind. Note that not every soulbond/soulbonder considers themselves plural. (This carrd has a lot of good stuff all in one place.)
Daemonism: The practice of communicating with a daemon--a personified split of your consciousness that usually takes an animal form. Like with soulbonders, a lot of people in this community consider themselves separate from plurals. (Link to daemonism terms.)
Tulpa: A deliberately created person you share your body with. There's a whole lot of techniques to it, and not everyone considers themselves plural here either. (Note: Some might use "parogenic" or "thoughtform" here instead of tulpa--though "thoughtform" is a more broad term that can cover different things.) r/Tulpas has plenty of informative links for further reading.
Also, some things that don't fall under plurality:
Constelic: A label for when one collects/takes on multiple identities. They might have one identity, or a lot, and these can range in intenstity as to how they're experienced. (Link to coining post on the web archive, carrd on the web archive.)
Vampire: Someone who feeds off of energy, blood, or both. I don't have links on hand for the vamp community so if someone else wants to put some in, it'd be great.
Factkin: Someone who identifies as a factual entity--usually a person who has lived before, like a historical figure.
Otherhuman: A person who feels like they belong to another branch of humans/human species, fictional or real (link).
"Alterhuman" is such an expansive term, there's so much more than nonhumanity to it. Not everyone who falls under any of these labels would necessarily call themselves alterhuman, but the term exists as an umbrella for everyone who wants it. It's so much more than one or two things--and even nonhumanity has intricate nuances to it that go overlooked.
you there. person posting a "list of alterhuman terms" post in the community tags. name and define five alterhuman identities that ARE NOT nonhumanity or fictionkinity. if you try to use voluntary nonhumanity as one of these the dragon gets to eat you. you have five minutes.
#just adding on more terms that are lesser known#i know some of these are also based on nonhumanity#but i really wanted to drop some system stuff in here. even fully human systems can id as alterhuman!#also i know some of these terms have discourse around them but people use them genuinely so they're getting added here#rb#shrapnel (he/him)#everything althu#althu info#everything plural#everything flicker#everything link#everything hearted#everything otherkin#otherkin info#flicker info#hearted info#plural info#link info

OC tag game
thank you @the-letterbox-archives for the tag!! the rule is to share some inspirations for the name/personality/design of a character! (originally it said to do more than 1, but letter only did one and we kinda want to focus on one too, only it's still a lot of characters)
the Audreys (they/them)
You know that illustration/cartoon going around where the caption says that if you're queer you know 28 people that look like this?
The Audrey's don't look like that.
A lot about them isn't clearly defined, because we want readers to fill in the blanks as needed. What we know is that they're taller than 5' and shorter than 5'10, willowy and kinda rail thin (the opposite of Erik), with long, straight blonde hair they don't really style, and a lazy queer style of clothing. In one scene, they wear a navy blue hoodie with gold mermaid print leggings and a pair of plain black boots. They also have a simple store bought cane that's black with a scale print etched into it.
We own that cane. That part comes from us.
They mostly use the cane for fatigue and balance.
Like so, so many of our friends, they're trans, autistic, and plural.
And like a lot of them they relate to crows and other corvids. Which is to say, as headmates they're actually literally a bunch of birds. They won't claim to be therian or otherkin, or alterhuman, because they don't really think much about such labels and are used to masking themselves around neurotypicals. But they are. Well, they might relate to corvids the most, but some of them are other things. Like, Brock is a bald eagle.
And their inner government is called The Parliament, and meets in an oak savanna inworld.
There's 140 of them at the beginning of the story, and they grow a little by the third book. And they're mostly full of fictives.
You can decide if they're traumagenic or endogenic or what. Whatever you relate to the most.
As far as we know, they don't look like anybody we know. They don't really behave like anybody we know. Because they are, effectively, a mishmash of every single mid to late twenties something trans masc autistic enby who has ever been our friend. They are an homage to the people who raised us as a baby trans, and the people we feel most comfortable around who don't outright share every trait we have.
They're also a bunch of doofy guys with "they/them" for pronouns. You've got Bock Samson, Donnie from the Big Lebowski, Ray Stance and Egon Spangler, Xander from Buffy, Shaggy, and people like that. Scorpia is also in there, along with any other character like her, too.
A huge part of their fate in the world is to serve as kind of a foil for the other characters. Which, believe it or not, is inspired by how we almost always felt while we were in the closet and trying to move through the world as a man.
It's sort of the reason we love all the fictives that we've put in their system. They're guys who aren't the leads, but who do struggle with that, and have varying success expressing their own presences. Brock is particularly successful, for instance, while Ray not so much.
But the Audreys do lead the way in a few scenes and also get something special out of the deal. We do our best to keep it all pretty even.
To talk specifically about what inspired them, though, we gotta talk about our own life a bit.
In 2004, we started a group called the Bellingham School of Comics, which met twice weekly at a place called the Black Drop. We just put a couple of fliers up for it, and within a month there were thirty members.
Just one of the significant things about the B.S. of Comics is that over the course of our tenure there, it had ten trans masc members. And we got to be pretty good friends with most of them.
But we didn't come out as trans ourselves until 2015. They were our first support group when we hit that dysphoric wall and had to come out. They saved our life. But before that, they also taught us everything they knew about trans feminism at the time. We owe them a lot.
And then, shortly after that, we came out as plural and autistic, and again, the first peers we had in that regard were also trans masc.
And along with Erik, the Audreys are kind of our way of saying, "You guys all really rock, you know that?" Because we made both of these characters to be people we could love. And we had a bunch of good role models for that.
--- Anyway, consider yourself tagged if you have an OC, then tag us in thanks when you post your version of this, so we know it's safe to tag you in the future.

my friend made a carrd on kin terms and wants to make sure terms are correct as they aren't that interactive with the community yet being in it for years, the url is kinform. carrd. co ( I am not sure if links work )
- and in case my tumblr messes up again I wanna stay anon
A’ight, let’s go through this!
First off, I want to say: I really appreciate the effort your friend is putting into this, including going to the effort to have other people check their work! It’s a well-organized carrd, and I appreciate that they included a lot of less well-known labels! That being said, there’s definitely quite a bit of misinformation here - which is totally understandable, the misinformation has spread unfortunately far at this point. But hey, that’s why I’m here!
Incorrect info:
- “alterhuman: a general term for anyone who identifies as non-human, whether it be 'kin or 'link” (on Terms) “Alterhuman” is a much broader term than that - “Having an identity that is alternative to the common societal idea of 'human'; a person who identifies as such.” It covers anyone who has an alternative experience to humanity, or who experiences humanity in an alternative way from “normal”. It’s intentionally an extremely vague and broad term - it covers ‘kin, ‘links, ‘heartedness/kith/synpaths, plurality, daemonism, furry lifestylers, real vampires, endels, probably voidpunk, etc.
(There’s a whole conversation to be had here about how the alterhuman community was supposed to get away from centralizing the otherkin narrative but somehow ended up with that being a huge problem anyway, with it often feeling like it’s about nonhuman identity even though it’s not - but that’s a pretty long conversation, so we won’t go there xD)
- “astral limbs: the sensation of a body part that is not there in real life ; not to be confused with phantom limbs which is used by amputees” (on Terms) Astral limbs =/= supernumerary phantom limbs =/= phantom limb syndrome. What you’re defining is supernumerary phantom limbs, not astral limbs/shifts - astral limbs/shifts are where your astral body changes to match that of your kintype, which a) doesn’t always coincide with phantom shifts, and b) requires belief in astral bodies/the astral plane in the first place, which many ‘kin don’t hold.
Supernumerary phantom limbs is the sensation of having a body part that is not and never has been physically present, as opposed to phantom limb syndrome which is referring to limbs that have been amputated. It’s not “appropriating” language from amputees or anything like that like some people have tried to claim - supernumerary phantom limbs is a medical term. Astral limbs isn’t an accurate, adequate, or necessary replacement.
- copingkin: identifying with or as anything under fictionkin or otherkin for comfort and/or coping ; also referred to as comfortkin ~ also see copinglink (from Kin) I would strongly suggest removing this; it’s not an accepted term and pretty much never has been as far as I’m aware. You’re either copinglink, someone who chose their identity for coping purposes, or otherkin who happens to have a psychological explanation, if your identity came about as an unconscious/involuntary coping mechanism.
- fictionkin: identifying with or as a fictional character or race. (from Kin) Remove “with or”; it’s identify-as. If you don’t identify as them, you’re not ‘kin. Identifying strongly with, but not as, is ‘heartedness, not ‘kin. I would also suggest swapping “race” for “species,” if that’s what you meant, since that’s a pretty loaded term out of context.
- otherkin: identifying with or as non-animal/non-human and mythical creatures ; some have their own label such as songkin. (from Kin) Remove “with or”; it’s identify-as, as above^.
- kin is often involuntarily & spiritual, if you consider yourself kin but don't do these, see hearted or synpath (from Kin) ‘Kin is involuntary, full stop, but it’s not necessarily spiritual. Nor is the distinction between ‘kin and ‘heartedness/synpaths the voluntary/involuntary aspect; it’s that ‘kin is identify-as and ‘heartedness/synpath isn’t.
- aeslink relating to anything for aesthetic reasons ~ "i am angel & palace aeslink" copinglink strongly relating with a fictional character for comfort and/or coping. (from Other) ‘Links are voluntarily choosing to cultivate an identity as something else - character, species, or otherwise. It’s still identify-as, not “relating to,” it’s just voluntary where otherkinity is involuntary. It’s not any less serious or any less identify-as. 'Linking or otherlinking is defined as “voluntarily choosing to identify as nonhuman/a fictional character or species”.
- synpaths: strongly relating to a fictional character or race that you see a lot of yourself in, but not as strong as kin. (from Other) Remove “not as strong as ‘kin”; ‘kin isn’t “relating to” something in the first place, it’s identifying as that thing. I would also suggest swapping “race” for “species,” if that’s what you meant, since that’s a pretty loaded term out of context.
- therian: identifying with or as an animal or other living thing. (from Other) Remove “with or”; it’s identify-as, as with fictionkin and otherkin.
Suggested edits:
Things that aren’t necessarily wrong, but which I would suggest edits to anyway for clarity/accuracy.
- awakening: the moment one realizes they identify as a kintype/theriantype (from Terms) I would posit that an awakening isn’t necessarily a single moment in time; much more often it’s an extended process that can take weeks, months, or even years. There’s some overlap between “awakening” and “questioning” that way, imo.
- They also said “theriantype” multiple times where it should be “theriotype,” but that’s more of a typo thing than a content error.
- otherkin: identifying with or as non-animal/non-human and mythical creatures ; some have their own label such as songkin. (from Kin) Songkin is probably not a great example if this is intended for outsiders who are new to the terminology, since conceptkin is kind of hard to explain to begin with, but that’s my personal opinion.
- Cladotherian, therian, theriomythic, and phytanthrope should all be on the ‘Kin page, as they all technically fall under ‘kin.
- identity/ID, kinnie & kinning won't be added as they are terms created by the more newer kin community and aren't recognized/accepted terms for older kin, though some older kin may be okay with these terms. (from Terms) Personally, I don’t like calling them “the newer kin community” - the “kin for fun” people aren’t ‘kin, they’re misusing our language, that’s the entire point. “The “kin-for-fun” community” or just “terms being warped as part of misinformation” would probably be more accurate.
- Synpath can probably be included on the ‘hearted page, since synpath, kith, and otherhearted are basically all synonymous.
Suggested additions:
- A resources list may be worthwhile! Things like personal websites and perhaps a few trustworthy blogs/posts could be worth adding to that list (I have a kin resources tag here that may be useful to them if they want to do that!) This gives people a place to go if they want to learn more.
- The term otherlinker is probably a good one to add, given that copinglinker and a specific type of ‘link (aeslink) are both present but the larger umbrella term presently isn’t.
Out of curiosity:
not edits at all, I’m just curious, ha
- kintrope: a trait found in most of ones kintypes. (from Terms) I’m really curious where they found this term, it’s not one I’ve heard before!
I think that’s about all I can find - like I said, I really appreciate the effort being put into this carrd! There’s a lot of good terms on here, just some definition fixes that need to be made - it’s well-organized and very aesthetically pleasing, which is more than I can honestly say for a lot of carrds xD
Hopefully that’s all clear enough to be helpful - I’m more than happy to chat further about this or provide clearer definitions/suggested resources, if your friend wants! :3

I disagree that generally there are so many more people out there with common kintypes because they're encouraged to identify that way, that just seems silly to me and I don't really see much evidence for that.
Nor do I think "so what if there's so many, and so what if it's a choice" is an agreement. That doesn't mean that the identities are a choice, that would be a total non sequitur, those are two different ideas.
Furthermore, using the existence of less common identities as a rhetorical device doesn't actually dispute the antikin claim (and it's also not really representing those identities to just use them as an argument). It's like saying "our identities are not a choice because not all of us are like them" which besides just being kind of a weird thing to say, I think it actually does implicitly concede the argument antikin are making, which does more harm than good imo.
(...And the antikin arguments are disingenuous and wrong, to be clear. I feel like I've said this before but antikin don't actually care what we tell them. They aren't listening, nor do they actually believe the things they tell us. When people make posts like described, they aren't making them to argue against antikin, they're making it so alterhumans can point and laugh. Not really important to above but I think it's worth pointing out in general.)
Anyway, yeah my wording wasn't totally clear. I will not fix this lol. I hope it makes sense if I can disagree without necessarily saying "you're wrong", because I don't really think you are. Less common identities should be represented more, however you misinterpreted my original post in a way I probably should have seen coming.
Also @ferny-fang Don't ! Leave this in the tags !!!!!! You're right !!!!!!!!
[ #this #but also #can we not label kintypes as cool and not cool #if I see another post saying that being insectkin is not cool im gonna go mad. fuck u all kintypes are cool #imagine if a transphobe said that trans ppl are faking because theyre only cool genders. and ur response was no theyre not all cool genders. #that wouldnt be a fucking gottem ]
A lot of posts on otherkinblr where ppl are making defenses against common antikin talking points really fall short for me because frankly I think we try too hard to "prove them wrong" and end up conceding a lot.
Like, an example, when I see "'otherkin only identify as cool animals so its a choice' oh yeah well here's a list of times they didn't" I think well, yeah it seems like most otherkin do identify as traditionally cool animals... so what? So what if it's a choice even? And by responding to such garbage criticism in such a lazy way, what posts like this end up saying is "being nonhuman by choice is less valid than otherwise."
We shouldn't really have to play defense like this anyways. We don't actually need to justify our identities to anyone, and if doing so results in us making bad assumptions and coming up with weird exclusionary ideas, thats kind of not great. If when the best response to antikin silliness is "okay who cares" we can say that.
#im not gna follow up on this this post took the life out of me#I will reblog further responses I get though#especially if they absolutely tear me apart
